The Blackheart Collective: The Circle

“I’ll coax out your puzzles before they exist. Maybe we’ll occupy all the lost time.“

I collaborated with a small volunteer creative team (helmed by Josh Simon) to write and perform six episodic immersive experiences throughout 2020. Instead of a physical venue, we performed over the Discord messaging service - a type of flexible experimentation necessary in a global pandemic. Audience members were assigned false names and initiated into a mysterious cult, where the leaders spoke in code and horrific memories served as kindling for strange magic.

We held these alternate reality experiences for up to nine days at a time, fully immersing our audiences with live character interactions that influenced our story in real time. These shows were living scripts, often requiring rewrites in the morning for an audio performance in the evening. In March of 2021, I had the pleasure of co-directing Made to Suffer, one of our final installments.

The Moth

“Can you tell the difference between the sweetness and the sting?“

A mysterious invitation to dine with an amateur entomologist arrives at your door. What you thought was a date soon becomes a deadly test. Can you convince The Collector you aren’t simply another insect?

The Moth is an immersive horror experience written for a single participant and a single actor. Combining a chilling encounter with an atmospheric dinner, guests play the protagonist in a personal psychological horror film. I wrote and directed this hour-long show for a private performance lasting a single night. Once the pandemic eases, I hope to remount it for a longer run with rewrites.
